Smiths Heimann Biometrics GmbH (SHB) was spun off from JENOPTIK in 1992, founded as a new digital imaging company. Today the company is a member of Smiths Heimann GmbH, the world’s market leader in X-ray security systems. Since December 2002 Smiths Heimann is part of the British Smiths Group plc., an international technology business concern.

SHB designs, manufactures and markets digital imaging products for law enforcement, civil and commercial finger- and palm print applications worldwide. Our product portfolio is extended by a range of smart document verification readers. The long optical traditions of the city of Jena (Thuringia) are an ideal sustainer for SHB’s innovative product developments. Thus, the company is still headquartered in Jena.Special imaging and scanning techniques, developed by and patented for SHB, are the backbone of our imaging hardware.

The fingerprint related software, running under Windows NT, 2000 and XP, uses a state-of-the-art object oriented architecture and brings outstanding features to work.

A strictly modular design allows to focus the company’s efforts to original own strength and makes use of commercial-off-the-shelf components whenever possible. Thus, our customers benefit from both the best of commercial technologies and our native developments.
